Jewellery Photography – Claire Brooks

December 6, 2010

jewellery photographer

I am honored to be the jewellery photographer for local designer Claire Brooks.

Claire designs and makes incredible jewellery. Her style is unique and super creative.

Photographing her work is an absolute pleasure and at the same time a challenge. Each piece is unique and special, therefore the photographs need to reflect this.

We have chosen a clean cut, contemporary, minimalistic photography style to put all focus on the jewellery. As Claire’s work is so detailed and intricate, it is important that every image is razor sharp.

Product photography – chrome taps & mixers

December 6, 2010

Chrome taps are highly reflective products. They take a little extra to photograph well.

It’s like trying to take a photo of a mirror without seeing yourself in it. This was a very similar job to a saxophone photo shoot I wrote about recently.

The trick with any reflective product, is what to position in the reflection. The last thing you want to see is some lighting stands, your camera or the office desk in your product. Positioning some screens in the right places will take care of this. However chrome requires a little more work. If you photograph the products in a white box and light them evenly, they will tend to look flat and boring. It is important to use various shades (dark, grey and light) in the reflection to give the product the shiny look. Easier said than done, but when you get it right, they look great!

Event Photography – Funkalleros Band CD Launch

October 25, 2010

Event-Photography-Music-BandOut of the studio last weekend and into the music scene!

I photographed a CD launch for local Perth band “Funkalleros”. They are awesome musicians and the crowd was rocking!

There were some beautiful colours with the lighting, which makes for great photos.

It’s important not to wash out these colours by using the flash, but at the same time its quite dark so you have to hold the camera as still as possible… and hope the band doesn’t move too much when you take the shot :)

Good live photos of your band are a great way to give yourself a high-quality look on your website, myspace, facebook and advertising.

Check out their website at www.myspace.com/funkalleros

Product photography – show the features

October 15, 2010

water-cooler-photographyWe did a product photo shoot this week for Callacooler, a water cooler company in Perth.

They were wanting hi-quality product photos of their new coolers for their new website.

One question that kept coming up from their customers is “when will you be delivering some more water”? These are actually self-filling filtering systems so you top them up yourself.

We needed to communicate this much stronger on the website so it was clear to their customers. A powerful way to do this is through photos.

We took a series of “in-action” shots, showing water being poured into the top. This will make it super clear on the website what you are getting.

If you are selling products online, there are great opportunities to easily communicate the features and benefits through using the right photos. Work out what your customers want most out of your products and make sure you show them clearly.

Cafe and Restaurant Photography

September 27, 2010

I took a trip up to Clarkson on the weekend to photograph a great new cafe that has just opened, The Urban Bakehouse.

It has a funky fit-out, with a simple and deliciously tasty menu.

Jason is also a wine buff so as soon as the liquor license is complete, there will be wine education sessions and yummy tastings.

Event photography – Didgeridoo Breath concert

September 24, 2010

I attended the Didgeridoo Breath concert last night to capture some photos of the event for their website and Facebook page.

It’s a great way for Didge Breath to share the excitement with their customers around the world who were not able to be there.

Photos of events is an excellent way to add life to your website… so people know you are a living, breathing, active business. This builds trust and credibility and results in a stronger online business.

Munchee Mugs product photography

September 15, 2010

Munchee Mugs… the no-spill snack mug! A genius little creation by local business owner, Shari Clark.

Shari needed some product photos of the Munchee Mug to show the range, but to also demonstrate its uses. We shot the mug with some common snacks in and around so you can easily get an understanding of what it can be used for. We also got some clean product shots of the different colours.

Spectra Motorcycle Jeans Photo Shoot

September 8, 2010

Brochure, Website & Advertising Photography

Had a photo shoot this week for Spectra Jeans. These jeans are new to hit the market and aimed towards motorcycle riders. They are great looking jeans with some unique and stylish stitching.

Spectra needed photographs that could be used in a variety of mediums (website, brochures, tags, in-store posters) to help launch, promote and build their brand.

The main goals of the photographs were to firmly appeal  to motorcycle enthusiasts and to also really bring out the unique stitching designs. We got some great environmental photos and also some “studio look” product shots.

Here are a few of the them… Read more…
